Some CBC communities are moderated by CBC staff, while others are moderated by external moderators and/or by automated tools.
On CBC.ca, we use a hybrid system (manual & automated), to review comments. The automated review is done by a natural language processing and machine learning tool that is owned by Viafoura. This tool, with manual support from Viafoura’s team of human moderators, reviews CBC.ca comments based on the Submission Guidelines.
For our community members, this means most comments are moderated quickly and moderation decision-making will be more consistent on a broader scale. We still have people to review more nuanced and complex comments.
